Importance of reading Studies show that reading for pleasure makes a big difference in a child’s educational performance. Children who read EVERY DAY not only perform better on reading test than those who don’t, but also develop a broader vocabulary and increase of general knowledge. Reading text that is hard to comprehend can be very challenging. Students should read nonfiction and ficion books that are on their reading level or slightly above. Reading Bowl 2017-2018
Students who LOVE to read were invited to a short interest meeting on Tuesday morning, Oct. 19th. These students are interested in becoming members of he MCE Reading Bowl. Team members will read 20 book titles and participate in a quiz bowl competition against other DCSD schools. Dr. Jones and Ms. Scroggins will coach the team to victory! Keep your ears open to hear more. The Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl is in January.
